"Cube" style Relay Systems

Hello,

Ok sorry I'm not trying to jump all around here, working on a thousand things at once. My friend would like me to build him a system to switch and mix his 3 rack delays in parallel. Well, the splitter, mixer and all those things are easy. got that.

Now, for the remote switching aspect of it, to simply switch on/off the split signals that go to each delay.

I have been researching those Ice Cube style relays and notice that they have the same contacts as a switch, plus two other contacts and they are activated by a pulse of X volts of DC/AC power, depending on how they are rated, which activates the coil which mechanically makes the contact switch, either DPDT or 3PDT.

OK so I'm guessing that it is not as simple as hooking + to one side and - to the other, and putting a momentary switch on either side to send the "zap" of + power to the contact and make the switch. Because this would be too easy. While the cube relays are $4-5 bucks, this isnt unreasonable.

I have read a ton of stuff on GeoFex on remote switchers (I really have R.G.....thrice!) , but never seen anything using the cubes. So i'm wondering if you still need all of the IC circuit, etc.

ah those look cool. Nice price too....But how do you actually "make it operate"....just a momentary pulse of current? Because that seems really easy....12VDC psu...momentary swtich between the PSU and the relay...flip the switch, boom, done...

don't you have to like reverse the current flow or something and thats what the circuit is for?

You probably want to regulate the 12v down to 9 or less. I use a regular latching switch, not a momentary. From my understanding, latching relays could utilize a momentary "blip". I connect positive on one side, negative on the other with my led in parallel. It is flawless to me...  ;)

Not trying to be "dense" here...

I understand you connect whatever part your trying to switch to the DPDT part, just like a normal switch, and you say you connect the DC+/- to the other two lugs, along with the LED. Got it.

But how do you wire your front panel Toggle (and what type of toggle) or remote footswitch to actually change the state of the relay?

I do it by breaking the positive connection via an isolated plastic 1/4" footwswitch jack. very simple.
