I just got a nice and heavy Fender volume pedal. Passive. It's a little bit scratchy and I'd like to remove this annoyance... Could anyone point me towards a good thread/article/schematic for this kind of problem ?

if you're talking about a scratchy volume pot, clean it out with Caig deoxit and you'll be good to go.

I'll try that. It's more like a sparkling sound which comes when I pass 50% and up. Seems strange since the pot is new.

Take the pot apart by prying the tabs off to remove the back.  Clean the resistive strip off with a cotton-tipped swab and some alcohol.

Recently caught on to this: you can also clean the thin, formed metal ring/piece that electrically connects the wiper on the shaft to the solder lug on the main body with some fine sand paper slipped in between the moving contacts.  That can be the source of some scratchinesses.
