Hello! I've plan to build this thing and made a layout. I've triple checked but it's hard to see your own mistake sometimes. If someone have 5 min to check it, I'll be very thankfull. Moreover, if have built it and tweak it with usefull mods, I'll be interested to know them.

Thanks and Bonne journée!

Dan

I know, but the pedal i built does not boost...it just increases volume!

it looks good to me. but i am new, so you may want to wait around for one more opinion.

i just built 2 of these on a layout and PCB from John Lyon's.

the switch was omitted and wired for true bypass with led and i used a 2p6t rotary switch to change between all the different freqency options. this pedal sounds killer!

i used an LF353 ic

i hope that helps, i love this pedal so much i will probably build another one with your layout.

Haaa thanks! So you're saying that the SPDTswitch was the original bypass system and that i can omited it with 3PDT bypass i use? I was thinking it was an ''overboost'' feature thing. Cool then, less wiring and a saved switch. I was planing switching the caps with a rotary too or maybe with two DPDT. I'll see if i can insert some diode somewhere for clipping option.

Thanks again!

Thanks

I had idea to make that pedal too. But so many project right now (and don't really have all money I would :icon_lol:)

Why keeping the on/off switch ? and why don't showing the wirring for rotary frenquency switch ?

It's me or I have impression that a lot of  pedals are based on Craig Anderton schematic ?

Merci Fuzzo! According to this: http://www.diyguitarist.com/PDF_Files/FreqBooster.pdf I was thinking the On/Off switch was an ''overboosting'' feature and did'nt realize until now it's the bypass. Wiring a rotary for frequency switching is simple and can be done by your own easyly. I don't know if it look like other schem, (even if it have some ressemblance with some overdrive), but i've built almost all those transistor booster yet and did'nt find what i was looking for. So maybe this one will be the Graal for me. Anyway it looks some nice booster i've eard recently are IC based (BBE freq Boost and possibly the Catalinbread Varioboost), so i'll give it a try.

Salut!

Yeah I think the catalinbread varioboost is just a clone of this Anderton schematic. They just added a -15B/0dB/+15dB pot. instead of regular volume potentiometer. Maybe that's a cool imporvement, that looks more an EQ design.

In watching the schematic, that reminded me a post of Mark Hammer who gave a good explanation of this circuit. To be short, the on/off switch works like on/off effect but keep the EQ circuit in the signal chain and let a buffer in the line (the gain of the second AOP is 1 when the switch is open, close the gain is 2).

Yeah i've seen Mr. Hammer post. So the switch can be a nice feature tough: Boost/No boost but buffering EQ option.

Thanks for the info!

In thiking about that, I think a -15dB/+15dB like the Boss GE7 volume control could be a good thing to add to that circuit.

I've take a look at tube Screamer schem and i was wondering if i could switch pin1 and pin2 jumper with diode back to back for clipping? Does it gonna work? It could a nice switching feature. I should have try it on breadboard first...now the vero is completed. :-\

The Anderton Frequency Booster is a cool build, but I find that an easily adjustable "Q-Filter" is more useful (like the one I have built into my SpankenStrat). Or a wah pedal left at a certain position, which is what I do more than anything.

Cool pickguard on that one! I dig the  poor man sunburst technic part. So you've put a Maestro boomerang in it? Clever idea! I've breadboard the CA booster and really like the sound of it, but initially i want to make something more like the Varioboost from Catalinbread wich is supposed to be based on CA freq booster but i've read that it probably a circuit gyrator or something like that...

Thanks for your site Paul, it's been one of the first place that i frequently look when i start building fx and it still a knowledgeable source for me. So i'll tell my wife that's your fault if she say that i pass to much time in the basement.  :D

Bonne soirée!

He he, I should put a disclaimer on my website about marital problems after visting it.  :icon_lol:
Yeah, I put a Maestro Boomerang in it. I don't use it that much, but I do on occassion.

the veroboard is verified ?

Not yet, i've breadboard it again yesterday for playing with clipping diode in the feedback loop but it was too late for testing so maybe tomorow night i'll finishing it and test it. However, it sound good on breadboard actually...

I'm working on a similar project,  a parametric EQ followed by tube screamer circuit.

But you want t add the clip' section in the second feedback loop (where there's the boost control) or creating another one after the Anderton frequency booster ?

I think you can tack the diodes after the output caps also...

I've tried symetric diodes between pin1 and 2, got nothing...i've tried between pin6 and 7, got nothing...tack at the end after the ourput cap....nothing, no clipping at all. I've got the feeling that this circuit mix the dry signal with the the signal boosted at specific freq, no more than that. Hence the name of it! :D Anyway it sound good and i think it can be really usefull with differrent cap on a 2P6T rotary. I'll go this way!

Cheers!

I've build this according to the first layout on post #1 but add the rotary cap switching feature as on layout #2. When i plug it i've got huge oscillation that can be pitch tuned with the rotary switch in conjunction with the boost pot. Those oscillations can be eard even in bypass but muted. When i touch the input cap (C3) or the first jumper (the longer one), the boost work fine and the rotary select the freq as supposed. I've star grounded the ground on the input sleeve, try the pulldown resistor, search for solder joint but nothing...reflow the all the solder...i got the feeling it's a ground issue or the short jumper under the IC (connecting Pin 1 and 2) must be outside the OpAmp...I'm confused! It's the first time i can debug by myself without help! So someone please help me before i cut my finger and tape it on the input caps!

Here's the reading i got on the IC: TL072
Power supply: 10.37V
Pin 1: 8.15
Pin 2: 8.15
Pin 3: 0.03
Pin 4: 0.00
Pin 5: 0.13
Pin 6: 0.27
Pin 7: 3.37
Pin 8: 10.37

Thanks!
