i just drew the schematic of the circuit from the throat mic unit in this older topic: http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=74989.0

i want to use it to amplify an actors voice through a guitar amp (and a bunch of effects) since it probably won't have a lot of feedback problems.

here's the circuit:

naturally i could find out nwhere the mic and earpiece were connected to the circuit but the other unknown wire go to the weird connector.

i guess the blue wire needs a voltage, 12V perhaps? i'm hoping a 9V battery will do.
the green wire is close to the orange (the earpiece) so i guess this has an output audio signal?

i'm not sure about the other wires and what the big momentary switch is for...

I'm not sure I can help on the reverse engineering front, but there has been a lot of research here at the university with throat mics and the one common issue is that the throat tissue only lets low frequency energy pass well, thus the high frequency transients are lost.  This means speech can get very muddy.  If you are then putting effects on it, I would guess it would be nigh unto unintelligible.  Of course, if that is the effect you are going for, then by all means do it.  If you are opposed to a headset mic and need intelligibility, one of the best places on the head is the forehead (and then the temple).

i forgot to say the ic on the left is an LF351N and the one on the right an LM386N
