Hello,

Yahoo has pulled the plug out of geocities.  So no more circuit snippets from Tim.  :'( :icon_evil:
Is there another link?

oliphaunt

A member has mirrored it and there was thread about it.  I thought I bookmarked it but I can;t find it.  I am sure someone will chime in with it.

Funny. I was just looking at the snippets yesterday. They've been up for so long that I stopped worrying about them disappearing. Silly me.

There are several mirrors available. Here is one:

I hope these are permanent enough because there are so many fun circuits there. Anybody know if Tim plans on rehosting his page? or if he is still active in the DIY world? Some of my favorite all time projects were his.

Quackzed

that is such a great site to encourage people to take the plunge and build a great circuit with a minimum of parts.

Long live Circuit Snippets!!!

One thing that is gone that I wanted to try sometime was the synthstick... Though I think I remember the basic principle (Mylar + VHS tape = ribbon controller)

I saved the whole snippets site to my computer a while ago... just in case.

If I recall correctly, the Internet Archive tried to grab as much Geocities stuff before it was taken down.

Is this what you're looking for: http://web.archive.org/web/20071022195707/http://www.geocities.com/tpe123/folkurban/synthstick/synthstick.html

If you're not doing it for yourself, it's not DIY. ;)

No, I was thinking of something else called synth stick made out of vhs tape and mylar.

;D ;D ;D

Just kidding. Thanks!

Good thing I made a PDF of most of the circuits, I was looking at it really often and wanted to get around the web monitor at work.
If anyone wants it send a PM.

I wonder how much good stuff was lost on geocities?

Yeah thankfully, quite a few sites have retained some or all of the pages--including Tims FolkUrban.com -- which doesn't have the sound samples, of note.   Not sure what Tim is up to, but glad he is still active enough to have 'retained' and 'rehosted' his site a little ways back.  Though it's been a while since it's truly been added to, much on the site remains priceless.

A little advise -- nearly All of those files we see here on the forum/net can easily be saved to your cpu, sound samples included.  You'll be glad you did if you Take the time to right click and save, if you are the semi-organized type.    With the exponetial amount of broken links that pile up, it's a good thing to do more than just bookmark--copy/save/print/store the files and pages you find useful for longevity.

I have a large accordion-type folder full of schems and print outs of theory/etc amassed in just a years time!  :icon_eek:  I can't imagine the amount of files I'll have going on after a few years time or more...

First thing I did (and one reason I wanted to) when I got a 4GB flash drive recently was begin compiling saved copies of pages like circuit snippets, geofex, and random schematic files by the hundred (and likewise backing up 2x over via HD and backup HD) so I can 'go beyond' paper copies in that regard.  The 'solid state memory' flash drive means it's portable at work/home, etc.   And the flash drive, is probably least likely to get corrupted, though most easily lost...but its useful to have all this info accessible to me at any given time, broken links or not.  Definitely reccomended...

Can you even imagine the grief if geofex went down forever?  :'(  I don't even want to think about it!  Definitely worth saving more than a few of those pages to your drive...
Breadboard it!
