Actually I was referring to the altoids style tins, and in a joking manner.
The sturdyness relates more to the switch placement on the tin itself.  A switch placed closer to the edge will be sturdier, while the placement of the switch in the center of the tin will be more likely to flex the tin when you STOMP on it....not step on it
The problem with this is that when you step on that edge mounted switch the whole pedal may just flip up towards you....
just my 2 cents.

oh don't worry, I figured you were just taking the piss. I wholeheartedly agree that switch placement is key. These tins are nit for everyone, but they cab work if you're careful about tin strength and deity issues.

I pretty much just try to cram what I can into them for fun. My Altoids tin doesn't gig though.

so my wife's clock radio took a crap. just happened to have two 47 uf electro's, that little speaker, and a battery harness. so i figured i'd throw in the 386 and a 1/4" in and make a cigarette amp.....it pretty much sounds like a guitar plugged into a clock radio.   :icon_biggrin:

here's my mosrite fuzzrite in a tin can. These cans were given with SIM cards by a local phone operator. BTW, there's a verified layout below. No jumpers and also almost symmetrical.  :) (my first layout)

here's a layout with the 22k resistor switch:

Love the M&M's tin. Hopefully I can get some tins this Christmas, I haven't built anything in to them in too long.

i've found the smaller round ones work best, they're sturdier. the square/rectangle ones "flex" too much and can be a problem.

but they work great, and tons of mojo!

Looks like this thread morphed from "Altoid tins" to "Any tin goes".

I found this candy tin during the Holidays.. I bought one that was filled with Crunch bars too.

It's a Punch amplifier circuit.. using the TDA7052A chip and A500k DC Volume Potentiometer.  Just a fun gift for a good friend.
