Wanted to make the Proco Rat distortion http://www.tonepad.com/project.asp?id=45 , but dont have the LM308 so can i switch it out for a  741 Op-Amp?

If not, any recomendations for a pedel that take a 741 Op-Amp, as iv got 6 of the buggers sitting at the bottom of a IC box.

If the pinouts are the same you can probably use it on a Rat. Two other choices to build something around the 741 chip are the gray 70's DOD 250 Overdrive and MXR Distortion+. What brand and designation are on those 741 chips you have?
Guitar > Neo-Classic 741 Overdrive > Boss NS2 Noise Suppressor > DOD BiFET Boost 410 > VHT Special 6 Ultra Combo Amp Input > Amp Send > MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay > Boss RC3 Loop Station > Amp Return

The Rat uses the external compensation of the LM308 which you can't do with the LM741, so you'd need to omit the 30pF cap and the results may differ accordingly.

It will work fine, just eliminate the 30pf cap as has already been
said and you will be ready to rock. Be sure to try some of the mods
that are out there.
