Just etched my board for the La Rat from tonpad (after getting some much needed help and information that i could use the LM741 ic)

The Rat calls for:
2x 1N914
1x 1N002

But now i cant find my tin of Diodes....all i can find are:

5v1  (take it that's zener diode 5V1?)
1N4001
1N4004
1N4148

Any substitution i can make?

You can use lots of things...check out this project:

He's got just about every clipping option on this build, so it may help you figure it out...
Pedals Built- Morley ABC Box, Fultone A/B Box, DIY Stompboxes True Bypass box, GGG Drop in Wah, AMZ Mosfet Boost, ROG Flipster, ROG Tonemender, Tonepad Big Muff Pi.
On the bench:  Rebote 2.5,  Dr Boogie, TS808

1N4148 are the 1N914 Equivalents, I can only get 1N4148 in the U.K easily and have always used them in place and as for the 1N400X series, I think for clipping they all work basically the same and they're just rated for higher Reverse voltages the higher the number.

So the 1N4148 will work as normal for the clipping diodes and the 1N4002 is just a reverse polarity protection diode so any of your 1N400X will work, you could also use those 1N400X for different clipping aswell.

That explains why i could not find any 1N914 as im in the UK too!

thanks for the help, think the only other question I got is..........I can use a 2N5457 insted of a 2N5458, as they are both JFET General Purpose?

That'd explain it! (By any chance do you use Bitsbox like alot of DIYers in the U.K?)

And I Don't see why not! Pretty sure i've seen Rats with 2N5457 anyway... might sound a tiny bit different but I wouldn't worry about it  ;)

Its all about Bits box! you cant beat the £1.50postage deal....but he needs to start stocking more foot switches!

Now back to the fun of trying to sort out the capacitors and resisters, and undoubtedly try and fine alternative values........this Rats fast becoming a mouse!

The 2N5457 should be fine.  It's only acting as a buffer anyway.
