i recently finished this (not yet boxed), just curious if changing the 2n5088 to 2n5089 would increase its gain/distortion?

i really would like to increase its gain/distortion.

thanks

Changing 2N5088 to 2N5089 probably wouldn't increase gain. One way you could increase the gain of the transistor stage is to bypass the 390 ohm emitter resistor with an around 10u capacitor. I don't know whether would sound good, but it would increase gain and distortion.

I've tried a 2n5089, and doesn't really have a dramatic effect. The cap should help, however. I have been thinking about modding mine with an opamp booster set to roll off frequencies below 700Hz, that way I can get as much gain as I want.

hi guys...

i added extra gain by adding a 10uf cap to pin 1 and 7...of the 386.........

it worked for me...lots more gain.....

one thing i would say is that i built the standard vero distortus max
and it is all ok ..except when a note fades right down i get a warbling octave type sound
right at the last dying sustain.........weird!..

any ideas why this would be..and has anyone else had this problem?...

should i try a pcb version?...is there one?...
