I used this layout

http://gaussmarkov.net/layouts/drboons/project.pdf

everything sounds great. the only deviation for the layout are a500k for the gain and mpf102 in q1, both to try and tame the gain and volume (worked for the gain but the volume.) The pedal is as loud as the amp with the pedals volume turned all the way down, it sounds like crap turned that far down, but it is still lout. I have to the the amp way down so that i can turn the pedal up so that it sounds decent. When the pedal is at a good volume and i switch to clean the clean are way to quite. does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for any help.

Try a big resistor in series with the volume pot.

You could also try a voltage divider after the volume pot.

Is the volume control working? (does is turn up and down the pedal?
You may have a bad ground connection to lug one of the volume pot.
It should be loud but not THAT loud.

I will try the a large resistor in series tonight when i get home. I'm not sure how to implement a voltage divider, two resistors in series off of lug 2 with the second going to ground and the signal being pulled from between them? If this is correct do you have a suggestion on which values to start at?

I am fairly certain the the ground connection to lug 1 is good, but i will check it when i get home tonight. Thank you for the suggestion, at least i have something to try. Any other suggestions?

Thanks again

The Volume pot is a voltage divider.
I am fairly certain that there is a problem
and that the circuit should not be as loud as it is
in your build.
