Cool demo for those interested in the Son of Storm Tide Flanger:

All the details are here and here.
More samples too...

Whoa. That's a ludicrously complex design.  :o

Also, listening to 4 minutes of the demo video made me feel like I was trapped in an Atari game.  :icon_mrgreen:

I asked for a sample using chords with a long decay in order to get an rough idea of what it might sound like with a guitar. I'm afraid that I find staccato synth lines a little wearing after 5 seconds!  It's an amazing flanger though.

It's a J. Haible design. Those familiar with his work know that's just how he does things. Little to no compromise. Ludicrously complex? Not for what it does. Just break it down into blocks and study how they interact. It is alot easier to build than to understand (at this point; for my simple mind anyway...).

I hear you. With all respect to the guy who did the youtube demo. Listen to the demos on JH's site. Alot more musical. Less "Atari". :icon_lol:

Hey, it's just an opinion. Relax.  ;) I'm not knocking the designer. I just think 20-ish ICs is probably a little excessive for a flanger. But that's just me. I don't deal with synth stuff at all, so maybe that's just my ignorance.

I built a pedal using boards from his effects series. The phaser. It is almost like flanging as it has so many stages. The original build thread is here:

The PCB part of it was straightforward, the panel components and wiring was very difficult. And mains power, YIKES

BUT, I DO intend to build the Son of Storm Tide- a friend of mine (my DIY mentor, really) is wiring his now!!! Can't wait to hear it in real life. This person has just completed the Jhaible FS-1 Frequency Shifter and it is VERY interesting.

Just waiting to get the $$ together for a proper rack enclosure.
@culturejam: It's all good! I am very relaxed. :D It does seem like alot of IC's (well, there are alot of IC's now that you mention it :icon_lol:), but there are really alot more features than on stompbox flangers. Are all those features necessary? IMHO, probably not for guitar/bass; but for synth & recording/mixing it's a whole different ballgame.
All the Best!
