I am looking for a transformer for the Tonepad Real McTube. I see that good old Radio Shack has some available. They carry a 12V@450ma and also a 12.6V@300ma. I will be using a 12AX7 tube. My question is which Transformer would be better for the project and why?

STILL??

There's no reason a rack-shop should stock two parts so close together. When they introduced the 450mA, I thought the 300mA was doomed. That was 30 years ago. RS is clueless.

Look at both of them. Unless they changed the contract, the 300mA is cheap junk, the 450mA looks better-made. At least it has(?) steel covers to hold-in the flames.

Forget the back to back configuration.  Look at transformer # P-T442 at Antique Electronic Supply, for $15..It has the same specs for the circuit without the back to back problems and those RS transformers lack quality......
