I am going to build mfz-1 and it uses a TL072.  Is there a metal can type TO-99 that would work instead.
Why? Call me stupid but I like the look of the metal can better.  They are kind of expensive so I dont want to buy a bunch to try.
Thanks

You will probably be fine switching out the op amp with a different part number. Remember, they all work the same - though each have their own special quirks. TL072 is a JFET input op amp, therefore it has very high input impedance. To get a reasonable match, look for another JFET input op amp in the case you like. I don't know the circuit, but it's very likely that you don't even need to care about that and any ol op amp would work perfectly.
