I built a box that does what you are saying without having to modify the pedal itself.  It's kind of like a looper box: there is guitar in, out to amp, and a send/return for the delay pedal.  I used switching similar to boss pedals because I was getting unacceptable amounts of switch pop with just a plain old switch.  Maybe a little over-complicated, , but it works.

I also have a verified vero layout if anyone is interested.  I may go back and make it more compact, it's kind of large but it was my first vero design from scratch.

Definitely interested in the vero-layout!
Would you please post the .diy file as well? I´d like to modify the circuit a bit. (Maybe a stereo return for chorus pedals etc...)

No, I read that thread completely before I built my Echobase. I just didn´t remember where it was... Maybe my time is over?
