Substituting different transistors in fuzz factory? Will this work?

Hi everyone-
I'm wondering if I can still get the same basic sounds out of a fuzz factory with different transistors. I have 2 AC128's still, but one doesn't have a high enough hfe rating to get the oscillations, so I'm wondering if substituting any other transistors will work...I would just go and try a bunch out-but I don't want to hurt the pedal or my limited supply of transistors. Thanks for any help you're willing to give.

try BC558.. they work good in mine tho i wouldn't say mine sounds like a fuzz factory.. or did. cause i ended up tweaking it a bit to my liking

still will do the job i guess

Lets say I only have J201's, 2n3904's, and BS170's.
Any chance any of those would work?

well i myself would try the 2n3904 but it's not gonna sound anything close to the actual pedal and may be it won't sound at all. but that's me! aha... you need a pnp tranny. try out 2n3906 (you can get it at any radio store) but BC558 is also popular and cheap...

2N3906 is a great choice in my opinion. That said, I recommend AC128's more.

prob not well. to get something comparable, you need a pnp germanium

those are fet, npn, fet, repectively
always think outside the box
