Son of Screamer vero help

On the SoS vero it has 2 little red squares with a black line. What are these?

If you are talking about the top, just left of center, those would be the clipping diodes.

A good excersice is to print both the layout and the schematic. Start at the input of the schematic and trace it through the layout to the output. This helps to understand what all of the components are in the circuit and what they do. It will also help to spot a fault in a layout before it has been verified and you are debugging a circuit you have already built! The layout you linked to is a good one in this case. Here you can see the diodes are a 1n914 and a 1n34A.
