Hello,
Have you used 'lazertran'; a transparent film for making decal?
( http://www.lazertran.com/ )
The instructions state that you must bake the decal with
the prining on it, then apply it to the metal box and
bake it again. From what I understand and was told by a friend,
if you bake as indicated in the instructions, you risk to burn
the transparent film and ruin the decal. But when it works
the results are fantastics, with the decal cooked on the
metal with a very hard finish.

If you have used lazertran, would you mind sharing your
stories and comments?

I read and saw pictures of good results with the t-shirt transfer paper
but this 'lazertran' allows you to put your artwork over a painted box;
something not possible with the t-shirt paper.

Thanks,

I put it on very wet and then smooth out the wrinkles. Wipe off the excess water with a paper towel. Let it air dry maybe 30 minutes and then bake. I flip the print so it is a mirror image and put it on with the toner down on the metal box.

Jack,
Did you bake as per the instructions or did you;
- turn down the temperature
- let the pedal in the oven for less time
- all of the above?

I am curious because after I heard the horror stories from another user I decided not to bake in the stove. Instead I uses a clothe iron to warm up
the decal at high for about 5 minutes (no contact). It worked but the decal
did not bond to the box as well as if it was baked.

I am looking forward to hear from more people.

I bake it before I apply it, for maybe 7 seconds at 450. this makes sure the toner is melted to the lazertran and gives it a glossy appearance, but you can skip this step I'm sure. other than that I do it the same way as Jack, except I add a drop of dish soap to the container of water I use to soak the decal, it seems to help when applying it to the box by allowing it to slide around easier.

you can see a small example of lazertran over a painted box on my home page
