has anyone actually done layouts for all the tonestacks in the calculator?...just curious!..

i was looking at the big muff tone control in particular in google and each one i found is totally different... ::)

i was just thinking it would be nice to have them vero'd or perf'd or pcb layouts....i did a search here and found just 1... :icon_eek:

Well it's not really a "layout" type of circuit.  It's a R/C on one side and a C/R on another.  I socket mine all the time and use the TSC to help me find my sweet spot.

Have you checked this out? http://www.beavisaudio.com/techpages/BigMuffToneControl/

Yeah, they're all different.  An "original" BMP is not so great for most pedals.  But with some experimenting you can make it do almost anything you want.  And if you want a mid boost instead of a mid cut, just swap your caps.   ;)

yeah cheers, i had a look at that...guess i'll have to make a little room on my breadboard ..and try different caps etc..

i made a vero onboard pot of one version earlier with sockets,  to add to my breadboard projects......but it was crap...sounded the same at both ends ...weird!..

i'll try again...hmmmm.... ::)

i'm surprised nobody has vero'd them though!..

is there meant to be a big dip in volume in the 12'oclock position?....

You could build a BMP tonestack and replace the resistors and caps with rotary switches..(do I need to explain the rest?). So then you just plug in your breadboard and mess around.
Big Muff, Trotsky Drive, Little Angel, Valvecaster, Whisker Biscuit, Smash Drive, Green Ringer, Fuzz Face, Rangemaster, LPB1, Bazz Fuss/Buzz Box, Radioshack Fuzz, Blue Box, Fuzzrite, Tonepad Wah, EH Pulsar, NPN Tonebender, Torn's Peaker...

OR you use the rotary to switch between caps and have a pair of pots for the resistance, and you are covered on the whole 360 degrees, even resonant peaks, if you prefer.
Give a man Fuzz, and he'll jam for a day... teach a man how to make a Fuzz and he'll never jam again!

Or, you can use a 100k pot to vary the input impedance and lower the high/low balance.  I use the bread board version at the end of my distortions for the tone control section since the Valve Jr. doesn't have tone controls, is dark and midrangey.  The BMP tone control is a great tool.  ;)

cheers guys...heres what i did for quick experiments...

i put sockets in for caps n resistors...and i use my trusty cap n resistor substitution boxes...great!..

what a huge difference a simple tone control can make...excellent. 'ill try the baxandall next... ;)

stiil a dip in volume in the middle of the pot though!.... i guess thats normal for passives though.... ::)

note: there should be another cut under the middle one in the center of the board ok....in case someone fancies it!.. :icon_wink:

Good Idea, Thanks!!! I am sure this will become handy. Waiting for the baxandall too  :)

This has some nice info on tone stacks layouts directly on the pots.

Found that link too, but had to leave the computer for a few hours, and now you've posted it.

you guys have been busy..nice one fellas!..i'm sure this'll be handy for a lot of people..great links too... :icon_cool:

this bmp is totally over the top treble wise...nobody would ever use that much... wtf?...... :icon_eek: a bit of taming of that treble...and i'm going to pull the mids down... i think!...

anyway been experimenting with different values..and with the tsc....much much better...i'll settle on some values and post em up...

its interesting to see the correlation between the tsc and what you actually hear....great fun!..

shame we cant make our own custom stack/s in the tsc...that'd be a cool feature..(i know you can snapshot) but proper custom would be cool...

anyway...i'll check out those others that have been posted too....cheers guys.  baxandall anyone?... ;)

:i made mine big deliberately so i could easily swap bits...i have sausage fingers!...and bad eyes... :icon_mrgreen:

here we go...a baxandall tone experimenting board..all values and numbers as per schematic ok.. :icon_wink:

note:the orientation of vero: and no cuts..

I just happens, that I was  researching tone stacks for an amp I am putting together.. so when the question can up I was on the page..

did you ever get speakers to do a sound demo of your superfly?

Have had no time, and my workspace is crowded by stuff from my great grandmother in laws apartment, will probably take a week or two for me to clear that space and then a week or two to get the parts I need and then again a week or two to get the time to sit down and experiment, then I can bother about getting a speaker  ;)

i.e. don't hold you're breath  ::)

These are straight from Duncan's TSC.  The only difference is an extra cap in parallel with the 330pF cap in the James layout (and a couple pads for switching it in and out).
Also there's a 1M resistor labelled "load" on the Fender stack.  I excluded it from the layout.  I think I got all the pots oriented correctly (the square pads being pin 1), but it's not verified.
I can upload the PCB image for etching if anyone's interested.
