Simple Jfet Buffer phase question

I could be completely wrong but I have always been under the impression that a simple jfet (or bjt) buffer does not invert phase.  I started to second guess myself so I went looking for answers online and I can not find any source that confirms or denies it.

Anyone want to shed some light?

Thanks!

If the buffer is connected as a source follower or emitter follower, it does not invert phase.  If it is connected as a common-source or common-emitter amplifier, it will invert phase.

Thanks!  I have always thought this but I wasn't sure what my source was.
