  I learned to work with a DC circuit during a flashlight failure, shaking the canister made the circuit.
   I learned more painful lessons with AC, having 120vac and AC capable of causing arcs to occur across lawn mower engine spark plug contacts.
  I once got a big B+ push from the wrong side of a Plexi PS, that touch sent me from the chair to the floor with a grunt [More recently I visited the SB and Tube forums, and figured out that most of the 'tone twisting', there is less requirement to use high voltages because most signal repeating and other processing can be figured out and done at safe voltages].

I learned by doing and then figuring out what went wrong ;)

I still do it this way, but when things go wrong now it's usually a lot more informative than when I did not know anything about electronics or pedal building. Book learnin'......bah!
