Tone and Gain Pots in Reverse??

I originally wired my volume, tone and gain pots using this diagram/schematic and everything worked fine. Reading further in the thread comments were made that the pots were wired incorrectly and should be wired like the second diagram/schematic. Everything works with the exception of the tone and gain pots working in reverse. The volume pot works as it should. I am learning as I go, so I am no expert, but which is right?

If a pot is working in reverse then switch the two outer wires and leave the center as it is ......

...or in your case, switch the one outer wire and leave the center as it is

you can obviously check which one is correct by the gain...the tone can be wired any way you like. some people like more bass as they turn clockwise.
