I might try it if some time frees up. I would either build it on a breadboard first, or use a socket so you can test other transistors. Anyone know what makes it "boutique"?

The reason i asked is that i built this circuit and i can not get it working ....

I have switched around the tranny , tried a new one as well , double and triple checked all solder's / connections ...

It will pass audio , but all i get is very low out put with and no overdrive at all , it remains clean at all times .

What diodes did you use? D1 should be 1n4001 and D2 1n4148

check if the connections are the same as the verified one:

...and remember troubleshooting starts with the voltages. you need to compare yours to working ones.

The layout you built lloks good compared to the verified one Luciferstrip posted.
Take voltage readings. Remember R.G's words "Remember that for an NPN silicon transistor to be working as a linear amplifier, it MUST have its base higher than its emitter by about one silicon diode drop, 0.5 to 0.7V, and the collector must be higher than either base or collector. The collector-to-emitter voltage is the size of the negative half signal swing, and the power-to-collector voltage is the size of the positive half signal swing."

I used a pair of 4148

Does it make a difference what one you use here ???

I will try a 1n4001 and 4148 , and report back ....

With my circuit build , i used a 220PF cap instead of a 330Pf for C1
Would this be a problem ? I did not have 330 pF on hand .....

This difference appears very small, and I don't believe that substitution is the cause of the issue. I would investigate elsewhere...

 Layout like fine vs the perf you certainly should have some output.
What is it? Do you have a schem?

It pretty simple - go over it with a continuity tester or loupe/magnifying glass looking for solder bridge poor joints. Also are the resistor values def correct? Transistor should be orientated as per the layout if its a standard 2n5089.
Its a amazing what completely leaving things for a day or two can do too.  You often go back to it and immediately see the issue.
Have had many such "doh" moments  :P
