turn a 100k pot into a 5k ?

i have a need for a dual 5k a pot , the ones i have , the shaft is short .

i do ahave a long shaft 100k dual a pot , is there a way , like adding what value resistor to this to "make it a 5k pot" ?

its for a smalley npn boost , a stereo one .

the pot is wierd with 2 wires going to it . there is a cap in there on the pot as well .

could a trimpot on it work... and adjust?.   just thinking aloud!..

i tried this last night , added a 1m to pins 1 and 3 on the pot . it didnt work . i am guessing this works with a 3 wire hookup , this was only a 2 wire connection to the pot . thanks for the assist guys !

i just wanted to avoid cutting too large of a hole in the "thick" wood chassis .

its this OLD speaker box i got off CL free . a capitol records speaker , from a turntable set up . it is such a nice looking retro piece .

the guy i got it from looked like a real burn out type ...

after working on it for 3 days i noticed he had pencil drawn a hairy male organ inside the chassis , and had written " 6 inches" .

(my wife AND BOTH daughters had been helping me on this project)

someone had also taken an "el morko" giant tip permanent marker and scrawled " 15 dollars AS IS ! " on the bottom and back panel .i cut a new piece for the back panel , stained and clear coated that , but , the ink never came off the bottom . the "artwork" on the inside was promptly erased .

i feel oddly tempted to swing by the guys place , throw the amp on the roof of the volvo , CRANK  it , and throw down some super cheesed weedily wee two finger tapping  .

i got yer 6 inches , buddy .

but i did get 2 working bass tens from this guy for free so  .

anyway , this amp is pretty sweet .
