A friend has asked me to make him a compressor for slide guitar. I was thinking of giving Merlin's Engineer's Thumb a go. Does anyone have any suggestions for other compressor circuits that may be suitable?

I'm really looking forward to trying the Thumb, but my fave so far (somehow Ross/Dyna never did it for me - might be a bass thing) is my QD2 version - thank you Jack Orman. It's based on an SSM2166, which is out of production, but check Smallbear. You get comp PLUS limiter AND gate. Gates are nice to have on compressors, and it sounds very good.

I think you'll find that many of your favourite slide players use a Dynacomp or similar.  With it's longer gain-recovery time, it is aptly suited to the task of making a note seem to hang in there for a while.
