Stompbox uses for VTL5C1?

I fell victim to one of the classic blunders, a deal that was too good to pass up (http://www.apexjr.com/new.htm) for a part I don't know what to do with.

When I ordered them, I thought, "well, slow decay time = no good in trem, but should be fun in an opto-comp." But I've been informed that I was wrong, wrong, wrong.

So what can I do with these in a pedal? Anyone got something clever to do with them? I'd prefer not to turn around and sell them.

You can try build Compulator. His based on VTL5C10. Compare datasheet witch Your VTL.

Maybe you could use it for noiseless signal switching?

Could it be slowed down by putting a cap in front of it, I wonder?

Turns out it IS used in several opto trem designs, like the trembulator (more "throb" than "chop" with this vactrol), so that's probably what I'll be doing. If I run across any use for it as a switch, I might try that.

PRR: It turn on very fast and has a very long light memory. That says to me that it has a long decay time. But correct me if I'm wrong, I'd love to use these up. :)

datasheet here:
http://www.aikenamps.com/VTL5C1.pdf

VTL5C1 decay: 35ms
VTL5C2 decay: 500ms

You're right of course, and I can't find the datasheet I was looking at. This was in my history: http://www.datasheetcatalog.org/datasheet/perkinelmer/VT500.pdf

The data sheet I was remembering before had a list of all the VTLs and was only a couple pages long.

In either case, the comments in my original post is no longer relevant, since there are apparently many normal applications for it.

If you have a spare 6 or 7 you could sell them to me if you felt so kind :) I'm in Australia and it's very tough to get these!

Call up Apex Jr. and ask if he's willing to ship to you. Looks like they're still in stock. I probably can't do a better price than his.

It's not so much the price but looks like he can only really take bank transfer and charge an extra $15 because of his bank fees... On top of my bank fees in Australia for an international transfer which is $20... then shipping on top of that!

I'm happy to pay for shipping and the items plus a little profit for your efforts... of course only if you're willing!
