This is a boost/mild overdrive specifically designed for spanking the front end of a tube amp.

I have obviously added an output pot and suggest trying a variety of transistors for your favorite flavor. I liked 2n2222 and 2n4401 although the schem calls for 2n3904. It might be  a good idea to replace the first jumper with a small value resistor 3.3-4.7k so it cant be turned down to completely silent.
