Phase 90 clipping...

I've got a Phase 90 that was DOA, no LED, no signal at all passed when engaged.
I replaced the Zener diode and the LED now comes on as it should and when I strum really hard I can hear some clipping, like the spattering youd get from a badly biased transistor.
What would be the next thing to check?
I didnt replace the other diode.

Read and follow: "Debugging; what to do when it doesn't work"

You have (at least) a bias voltage problem. The voltage checks in that thread will turn them up pretty quickly.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
