hi guys, how can I make a smokey amp clone speaker turn off when plugged to a 2x8" cab? The little speaker goes on even with headphones on dissabling me from practicing at wee hours..

you can use a normally closed stereo jack for the phones... when you plug in the plug, it disconnects the 'normally closed' from ground, if the negative of the speaker is on the normally closed tab it will be connected to ground only when no plug is inserted in the headphones jack. kinda like the pedal power trick where power is only conneccted to ground when a plug IS inserted... except with a normally open jack...
nothing says forever like a solid block of liquid nails!!!

can I use a normal plug and wire it as normally closed? Or purchase a normally closed,ready-to-use  jack?

If your jack is of this type http://acimg.auctivacommerce.com/imgdata/0/1/2/8/8/9/webimg/1310840.jpg or this type http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/af/Jack-plug--socket-switch.jpg (shown here in mono, not stereo) then it has to the 'normally closed' contact(s) which is the actual switching part.

You wire it in between the output of the opamp and the speaker. If nothing is plugged in the connection to the speaker is established, when you plug in your headphones you break the connection to the speaker and only get sound through the headphones.

I got one from a butchered karaoke, but I dont know how to wire it in, too many poles, pretty confusing..
