Title: Boss DS-1 Octave Fuzz mod - too noisy
Post by: Dinosaur_Sr on April 17, 2013, 05:46:46 AM
Hi Chaps,

After looking into the available mods for the DS-1 I was shocked at how simple some of them are and decided to check them out, I've been GASing for a Bit Commander for months so I thought I'd try the Octave Fuzz mod from Brian Wampler, it's literally just involves connecting two points on the board with a single wire:

I did it and the effect sounds great, exactly what I wanted, but it's incredibly noisy and almost drowns the notes out. What could I do, if anything, to reduce the background chaos?

Alternatively I'm very interested in building myself something similar to the Bit Commander, could you recommend a schematic or strip layout?

Here's a clip of what it sounds like, recorded on my phone. You can hear the huge background noise, can this be tamed or is it just the nature of the mod?

I've never tried this mod but I'm willing to bet it's doing exactly what it's supposed to. Make it switchable!
