Hi stomp box tech heads,
I am not a tech head myself, ....just a musician/player.
I have a key question that my amp tech has asked since he will be assembling my onboard, custom ACG Filter bass preamp into a stomp box version.
If anyone here can answer this, I'd highly appreciate it:
"Using a dual pole, dual throw switch as a bypass,...will there be an audible noise when switching the stomp box on and off?"
"Or, can you suggest a noiseless switching circuit?"
I'd appreciate any knowledgeable replies to work this out. Thanks very much, gang! :)
Cheers!
Is this a troll attempt - if so low score.
Use search try "popping" - if not trolling. Your amp tech also needs a kick up the arse in that case.
Hi Mistahead,
I am not familiar at all with the terms, "popping' and "trolling", nor your meaning behind your reply.
Please speak in layman's terms for the non-tech head minded. Thanks.
Try searching for switch popping on this forum. There are tons of threads regarding why things pop and how to fix it. Popping tends to be case dependent.

"Trolling" isn't a tech-head term (anymore) or reply. While I suspect may still be the case... but benefit of the doubt given for now...
"Popping" is a tech problem - there are a wonderful number of reasons it could happen in a rig and searching the term here you'll find some of those reasons and fixes that may or may not be suitable. It has been a hot topic lately too.
In theory aren't you paying a guy to know this stuff rather than ask you to ask the internet for him? If I took my car in for a new windscreen and was asked to provide advice on how to ensure it wouldn't fall out when I was breaking he would not get paid.
Sounds like a bait/troll post, or like you need a guy who knows his stuff better.
We need more information to give a proper answer. There's many ways to use a DPDT switch to turn an effect on and off, how is your tech planning on doing it?
If he/she is using what's referred to as "true bypass" then it can cause pops or clicks in the audio signal when switching a lot of the time it can be virtually silent though.
Thanks gentleman, for you kind replies.
My amp tech is quite familiar with the terms, "popping" and "trolling", and he said he'd have to try the true bypass feature, and see if there are no audible pops. I guess it will be trial and error until he finds the correct hook up for my stomp box.
Any other suggestions are welcomed and much appreciated! :)
Cheers!
Your amp tech should be able to use some of the "popping" threads here for techniques to fix it up IF it is occuring (is it - or are we preempting a possible issue?).
Stray DC seems to be the main reason, pull down on that seems to be the main answer... keep in mind I'm no pro - just a slightly abrasive internet guy! :icon_wink:
If you want us to point you towards the most used DPDT (with and without) LED bypass switching techniques there's a few links around - General Guitar Gadgets bypass info page is one of my go-to's.
Thanks, Mitsahead. ;)
Cheers!
