Title: Problem with Super Hard On on veroboard
Post by: Bananagab on March 16, 2016, 07:32:07 PM
Hello,
I just built a pedal and I've been searching for a least two hours why doesn't work properly.

1. Super Hard On on veroboard from tagboardeffects

2.Here's the schematic http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.ca/2013/02/zvex-super-hard-on-compact-layout.html (http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.ca/2013/02/zvex-super-hard-on-compact-layout.html) and the wiring diagram I used http://www.madbeanpedals.com/downloads/MBP_FootswitchWiring.pdf (http://www.madbeanpedals.com/downloads/MBP_FootswitchWiring.pdf)

3. I'm pretty sure I followed the schematic without committing an error. http://imgur.com/a/w3npX (http://imgur.com/a/w3npX)

4. I switched the 5k1 resistor for a 5k6 one. I put two leds because I intended to make a lightplate. The potentiometer has the PCB mount legs because I couldn't find one with the holes.

5. The sound passes through just fine when the pedal is not engaged. When it is engaged, depending on where I set the potentiometer, there is either a low muffled sound or nothing at all. The potentiometer makes scratchy noises when rotated.https://soundcloud.com/thebananagab/superhardonnotworking/s-vHMHN (https://soundcloud.com/thebananagab/superhardonnotworking/s-vHMHN)

6. I do not have a multimeter. I could get one if you can't figure out the problem with the information I gave already.

Thank you for your help!

It looks like you built the vero as a mirror image. The Mosfet is upside down, you have source where drain should be and vice versa. Just reverse the mossy and the board should at least be electrically correct.

Thanks! There is an effect now and the guitar sound passes through just fine. However, there is a annoying ''hiss'' going on. Do you know what may be the problem here? I included a sound recording.

(I might have put a lot of heat on the transistor. Could that cause the hissing?)

Glad you got it working. Now, it sounds like oscillation- try a small cap between the gate and drain- say 22pF to start, see if that helps.

Yeah it worked! Thank you very much!
