Title: capacitor help for first ever order to mouser (from australia)
Post by: njkmonty on May 09, 2017, 08:19:39 AM
can anyone suggest the model/series type for electrolytic capacitors to order from mouser, the nice low profile ones ( i think they are Panasonic, Im not sure)  for low space builds, (ie no higher than an ic in a machined ic socket

every time i look i get lost looking for hours and hours and there are so many different modelsetc and new series coming all the  time  ? does anyone have any suggestions?
''also there are some builders including madbean etc ive seen who use these low volatge panasonic film  ecq/b/x/s/z!!???

are they any good ?  and which series etc do people suggest?

for example if you look at the last page of the dig dug 2 pdf  you can see some red/maroon film caps and some low profile electrlytics

the mouser filters list nichicon, elna, panasonic and vishay, plus others. head to the manufacturers websites and get some cattle dogs (product catalogues for the non-cobbers). look thu them for miniature or whatever, then apply the manuf filters to the mouser page.

[I hate those filter pages because of how poorly my chitbox pc responds to the processor loading, so I try and get as many filters selected at one time.]

any caps made by panasonic "will be good". fit for purpose, even.

In your parametric search on Mouser's page, there is a column for length.  First drill down through the categories until you've selected radial electrolytics.  Hold down your Ctrl key and select all the lengths that would work for you.  Bear in mind that shorter caps may sometimes be quite wide, so take a look at the diameter column when you are viewing the results.

Once you've further filtered on capacitance value and voltage ranges, the number of parts you need to look at should be reasonable.

Brian's (Madbean) 1590a build doc has links to the electro caps he gets from Mouser as well as other low profile bits and pieces from here and there.

I've Nichicons from Digikey that i wouldn't be surprised that Mouser also carry.
