Title: DIY Mic Mod OT - Please subscribe
Post by: aron on July 11, 2020, 01:42:17 PM
So I made a small video about my DIY mic mod.
It's one of the cheapest MXL 770 mics. Around $75.
I put in one of those RK47 capsules and now this mic is amazing! I've done recordings with it and it is so pristine.
The interface I am using is the SSL 2+ and the mic preamp is really great. I also use that foam "ball" that goes around the mic to focus the sound.
This is a worthwhile mod. It sounds better than my AKG 414 for vocals!

Another hobby of mine is building/designing/adjusting condenser microphones

It is good practice to use gloves when working with capsules

The China made k47 capsules can sometimes be helped with adding a low pass filter

If you look around the web you will find nonsense of removing the inner mesh, don't do that, also question the microphone adjustments you see on the web.

There are ways to increase the capsule charge voltage.

Sounds better than a AKG 414? what model? How old? 414s are nice microphones.

Forgot to add it looks nice and working with microphones can be a lot of fun
