Title: Soldering to jack with contact?
Post by: Lameller on December 22, 2020, 03:02:10 AM
I want to take the signal from a pcb mounted mono output jack that has 3 pins. It seems to have a contact so that it only outputs sound when a jack is inserted but I would like to take the signal also if a jack is not inserted.

Any help on how to do that?

plug a cable in it, and use a multimeter on continuity to beep the connections when a mono lead is plugged in and when it is not..

make a note of the unplugged and plugged results.....

the lug nearest the socket input is obviously ground, the other 2 are the tip/switch.

It's possible, since this is an output, not the usual power switching switching input jack, that the third lug on the jack is a shorting pin which shorts the tip to ground when nothing is plugged in. Not sure why they would do this, but it's a possibility.
