Title: Possibly torched capacitor
Post by: jwyles90 on February 06, 2022, 12:34:32 AM
Just finished populating a PCB earlier and realized after everything was soldered that I had oriented one of the capacitors incorrectly  :icon_mad:   I  had a helluva time getting it out and had to manhandle it to finally get it out of the PCB, but I'm worried that I might've torched the capacitor itself. Based on the pictures, does the capacitor look salvageable or am I better off just getting a new one? And are the solder pads still ok or did I torch those too? Thanks!

For the sake of a few cents (and assuming you've got a stash of spares), then just replace the capacitor.  It's not worth the grief to find out later it's been damaged.  The pads look ok, but clean up the solder splatter.  Use a sewing needle or cocktail stick to clear the holes.
