Title: TBR: A Reverb-ish Thing
Post by: Ripthorn on February 24, 2022, 08:32:40 PM
It's fair to say that I have been on a bit of a quest to come up with a variety of DIY-able reverbs. I did the T60 Reverberator a year and a half ago, the Spare Room and Riptide reverbs were last year, and now, the TBR. It stands for Tiled BathRoom and started life as an Ersatz Verben, but I did a few large changes to it. It's a single PT2399 affair, so it's more like a slapback with fixed feedback and delay time, but it gives the impression of playing in a super reverberant environment. The notable changes from the Ersatz Verben include:

- Using the unused PT2399 opamp as a summing amplifier to make the mix control more to my liking
- A 470nF and white LED from near pin 6 to pin 8, as discussed recently on this forum
- A boost stage at the end to get everything up to unity gain, since the PT2399 opamps can't provide enough headroom

It's nothing earth shattering, but it's a super easy and fun build.  Schematic and demo below. Full schematic walk through, board files, etc. at https://scientificguitarist.wixsite.com/home/tbr (https://scientificguitarist.wixsite.com/home/tbr)

ooh, a delay i like, for a change, (i dislike most delays) probably because its on the edge of reverb-ness.

ill definitely safe this page for later, if i decide i need a reverb/delay thing.

cheers

Love the name too. A tiled bathroom is exactly the type of space you're modelling with such a thing, so it's perfect.  8)

While I can't recommend taking an amp and electric guitar into the shower (or making toast), singing in the shower is fully to be encouraged because of the excellent reverb in your tiled bathroom!

Great little circuit, but a bathroom to Americans is what we call a toilet in the Uk  ;) I'm only joking with the USA/UK terms and love this idea of a tiled bathroom reverb. :)

Thanks, guys! It was good fun and I went through various iterations before landing in this. It now gives me a reverb design portfolio of 1, 2, and 4 pt2399 circuits as well as a true spring reverb. I've got a couple more ideas to get to a well, since DIY reverb is not super common.

Very cool!  I hadn't really considered building any "wet" effects until now, because they all look so complicated.  But this one looks doable...

Great site, BTW.   :icon_cool:

Thanks! I'm trying to create projects that give more variety or make certain types of effects more accessible. It's a fun challenge for me.
