Title: Lumberg DC jack design change - what's the difference?
Post by: Toy Sun on October 21, 2024, 11:19:33 PM
I'm totally committed to real Lumberg DC jacks. Been burned by the Tayda knock offs. But I'm seeing some vendors selling both the "original design" and "new design" versions. Apparently Lumberg changed it in 2023. Anybody know what the difference is?

Thanks

The new Lumberg is a bit tighter. This one is the exact jack that they used to sell if you prefer that version which I definitely do.

Yes! That was one of the vendors that is selling both. I know I had a batch that were too tight, I think they came from Love My Switches, and I even wrote to them for a reality check (they got back right away with a datasheet!).
I also prefer the less tight ones, so will go for it.

Thanks!

I always find it funny that the pedal world has just accepted the fact that using 12VDC rated DC jacks with 18V power supplies. This doesn't really have anything to do with this thread, nor am I even 'accusing' you of doing so, just an observation hahah.

That rating seems rather arbitrary. There's enough clearance for a couple hundred volts. It even specifies it can withstand "500 VAC for 1 Minute".

The Lumberg datasheet linked from the newer version of this jack gives a 30V rating, with 500V max, so we should be fine at 18V.

It's true that the Amplified Parts site says "12V", but they clearly didn't read the datasheet!

I remember a few years ago buying some "Authentic Lumberg" style jacks from Smallbear before the change of ownership. When I installed one of them into a build, I couldn't fit the wall wart plug into them as they were too small. Checked it on an older build with a REAL Lumberg and it fit fine.
When I emailed about them... never heard back  >:(
Still have the bag-o-jacks.
