Title: dirty pots
Post by: casey on November 20, 2003, 05:53:32 PM
i gotta amp that i have to fix some dirty pots on.  of course the
fast way is to spray some cleaner in the offending pots,
but is there a more sure fire method to make sure that they
are clean and stay clean?  would this entail taking them apart and
cleaning them by hand?  i dont want to have to replace them.

thanks

Are they dirty; or just worn out?

Most posts have a realitivly small life in terms of the number times you can spin them.

Take the cover off one and look for groves scratched in the conductive material. If you see any scratches, you can only replace them. Sorry, that's the breaks.

Good luck,
-Peter

Before replacing them, yopu should check what the master has to say:

Before you go pulling anything apart, make you sure you try DeOxit from Caig Labs. Even some of my local area music stores carry it now. I try to never be without the stuff myself, as it's saved me from almost as many headaches as aspirin   .

PS. Don't even bother with standard solvent/cleaners.
