Title: Fet Diodes
Post by: WGTP on November 24, 2003, 09:54:39 AM
I measured a J201 and 2N7000 as diodes and they were slightly higher than std. silicons.   Would they have a slightly higher clipping threshold?

Hi WGThickPresence,

Yes they should. However, whether they sound better or not is subjective. If you want to raise the clipping threshold you can always double up the diodes.

Give it a try! I find in some circuits I have tried all sorts of combinations before I was happy with the circuit.  It really depends a lot on the circuit. In some circuits, like the muff fuzz, I have found the 1N60 Ge diodes caused a gating effect that I need to include a cap to eliminate. Where the si or led's worked better for me with out the cap.

Regards,
Will

Put the J201 etc... in a feedback loop like the Tube screamer type circuit. Tell me what you think.
