Title: Muff Fuzz Noise
Post by: WGTP on November 26, 2003, 03:06:18 PM
I built a Muff Fuzz based on Gus' mods and it has a really nice smooth distotion, but is noisey as a hurrican.  Is this typical for a dual op amp device?

Hi there,

I built one using a 1458 and I have an original that's part of an old (and friggin' huge), EH "Crying Tone Pedal" - and they're both noisier than hell.  :)  They do sound cool though...

What mods did you use?  The ones I built were not to noisy.  What IC did you use?  The circuit has alot of gain.

I have a updated schematic.  Moose built one for bass.  Its a ultra fuzz at 9V meets a muff fuzz with values picked for different usage guitar bass etc.  Aron you can post it if you want Sick bass fuzz.

I put a 1 meg resistor in each loop 1 SI diode in the first stage (like the Mosferatu) and 2 in the second.  If I put a 220pf cap in each loop that helps a lot, but cuts too much treble.

I'm wondering if the input cap might be noisey.  It measured 160K but showed something else the outside.  Maybe bad.

I have tried 6 different opamps.  412, 353, 052, 072, 4558, 4559.
