Title: Highway 89 build
Post by: Bill_F on December 12, 2003, 09:03:56 PM
Just finished this bad boy and it is great! It immediately became my favorite distortion pedal. Rich, thick harmonics, cleans up nicely, good sustain! Couldn't find any pickup setting on my guitar that didn't sound good. Can't wait to get it into a box.  :D    :D

Awesome job Doug! Thanks for sharing it with us.

I use BC549c to replace 2n5088. I've read that BC550 works too.

Hope it helps.

  Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!
Finished the highway89 too... uhmmm, what can I say? It's amazing, makes you don't want stop playing.
I started to find my Blues face with this pedal, well it's great for other styles too, I could easily reproduce that Gary lead tone with my neck hambucker, I think the key is HOT hambuckers for that tone.

Thanks so much Doug for this awesome AMP :D  BTW have you got a new monitor? Looking forward for the new one to try :P

Regards
Kleber AG

Yeah, I can't find them here either. I had to get my from SmallBear also. Would something like a BC109 (if you can get that) work?

If i remember correctly, you can also sub the 5088 with a bc169, i guess the bc109 would work too, maybe a different sound, but it should work, as its a high gain low noise trans, like the 5088.

Try searching for "5088 replace", i'm sure a ton of info will show up :D

Good luck!!

Wow, I'm really happy you guys like it. :D

I would think any high-hfe NPN transistor should do the job. I don't think low-noise is as important with this one, since it's not real high gain. As always, try it on the breadboard first and see what you think.

Kleber, the new monitor should be coming in any day now, it's been shipped. But with the holidays upon us who knows?
