Ive used BC549C and 1N60 Ge diodes...goin to change it to 1N4148 tommorow....

to me, it sucks..... :? is this because of the diodes??

I repaired an original a while back and I agree, it sucked. Your better off to go with a Foxx Tone Machine.
Title: Tycho Vs FTM
Post by: petemoore on December 13, 2003, 02:10:05 PM
...Here we go again.
One question you can answer as a blank...
Have you tried a transformer type octave like the Tychobrahe Octavia?
I built one and the FTM.
The FTM is quite hard and produces a defined octave heard over more of the neck///"fierce"
The Tycho has closer to ring mod tones, I use with Fuzz, and guitar vol.
neck or neck/mid pickup [single coils...
Both work great, I lyke my Tyke...
The FTM is hardwired for octave, I need to dig in it and find the Fuzz sound and try that.
There were types' [threads] about RM Octavia being the kick, doesn't look terribly difficult, haven't tried one yet/

Jrobinson,

it really sucks.... havent heard of an FTM though....any links to clips??

gona change the diodes GE to silicon if there could be any differences...

I think the tychobrahe octavia IS better sounding than this....:) have downloaded a clip of it...very nice...

Petemoore,

I would love to make that transformer octavia, problem is Im still searching for a suitable transformer... got one here from an old radio, primary measured(227Ohms-2 terminals), secondary 135 Ohms-3terminals,if from center-tap, 65 Ohms)..I know its much to low in resistance... but Im still gonna give it  a try....:) dont have problems with the tranny, only with the transformer...hehehe

what about the transformer-ess octavia, does it sound like the transformer type?? I think Ive seen it somewhere but I forgot where or what it was.... Or am I just dreaming....

-Regards

Ralph

I was going to waste much time in tracing a PCB and building it!
