Title: Maestro Fuzz
Post by: Guitar Dude on December 14, 2003, 02:26:38 AM
Hey,
I'm having a go at making the Maestro Fuzz (http://www1.korksoft.com/~schem/veffects/maestofuzz.pdf). This is the first time I've made an effect using only a schematic and I have a few questions.

As you can see, at the bottom of the pdf file, there's a blurb about transistors, diodes, power and switching. So, I have three questions:

1) What kind of Transistors should I use?
2) What kind of Diode should I use?
(I was thinking of using BC109C Transistors and a 1N914 Diode but I'm only guessing. Keep in mind I live in New Zealand and special parts are hard to find)
3) How do I wire it up so the battery turns on when the plug is in, I'm used to wiring the negative terminal to the sleeve of the jack, but as you can see in the schematic, the negative should be connected to the ground. Can I just do what I always do and wire the negative terminal straight to the sleeve or is there something else I've got to do?

Cheers
Tim

That transistor house number corresponds to a 2N3391A. The diode is a 1N457A. Your replacements are spot on!

Power and bypass wiring are standard. Use a stereo input so your plug will turn it on, and use a DPDT switch for true bypass.

Have fun!

Theres' a couple places around here [as well as representations on existing schems] showing how to wire the ring to battery and sleeve to ground for battery switching ala input plug being pulled out.
Basicall the mono plug into a stereo jack connects the ring and sleeve, making the battery ckt continuous.
 Battery to ring
 ckt gnd to sleeve
