Title: Need Blusey Overdrive
Post by: KevinSTP on December 19, 2003, 07:04:44 AM
Seein as my DS-1 is sounding good for the Eric Johnson ,SRV sound I need a good blues type overdrive-More of a Danny Gatton,Brian Setzer sound.I'm playin a tele with Joe Bardens and a Duncan Alnico strat middle pickup, and a Semi Hollow with Dimarzio Q100 pickups through a Fender 75 with 2,10" celestions.Any recommendations,I'm leaning toward a Highway 89.Which compressor is recommended also?

I haven't tried it yet but Ive heard from numerous reliable sources that it's the 'new route' through Bluesville, and is quite smooth!!!
Boasting cleanup at guitar vol. should make it easy to negotiate the 'turns, entrances and exits' !!!

Blue magic at GGG. Easy to build and nice sounding.
There are sounds samples too.

I second the Blue Magic. The TS808 is good as well. And, at lower gain settings, the BSIAB sounds really good, IMO.

I'm about to build the blue magic, but i've got no j201, only mpf102, bf245 and 2n5457.

Has anyone built it with those, or any other fet than the j201? Any mod to perform to make it tick?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

modify your DS-1...
Change the Clipping Diodes (D4 and D5) to Germanium and put 2 or 3 in Series on each Side, or add 2 1N914 on one Side and one on the other, for cleaner Sound and smooth Distortion.
With a Strat the Sound comes as a nice Overdrive, with Tone turned back a little it is warm and SRV comes good with it..

So you will have not to build a Pedal

bye
