I have one here that a beginner butchered.. I coldn't fix it, but neither could one of the best analog guys around here! There ARE plenty successfully built, but on a 1 to 3 star difficulty rating, I'd put it at 3.5 or so. Remember, we're talking RF.
Last year Nuts and bolts magazine had a two part project one the theremax. It included a construction guide, and parts list, parts guide, pcb image, tuning guide, and other stuff that you would need to build it. I have avoided mentioning it, but if anyone doens't have a problem with it, I will scan the article and provide it to people that wish to see it.
I should add that the reason I've avoided mentioning it is because Paia still sells the theremax, and at a good price. You get a PCB, and parts you need. Even with the article. you would still need to get some parts from paia. You could make a PCB but the coils you would need I've only found that paia provides. But the offer still stands if you all wish.
