Title: Log/Lin Pot ID
Post by: Xlrator on December 27, 2003, 09:58:33 PM
How can I tell if the pot is linear or audio. I would guess the "A" after the value would mean audio, but would "B" stand for linear? For most of my pots I have a "A" and a "B" in similar values.

How could I test it easily?

1st and third and last are lin

put all the pots in the middle of their rotation.  and check the values..  a lin should be aprox half total value..  log will not

Yeah a pot value followed by the letter 'A' will be logarithmic (think "Audio"), and one followed by 'B' will be linear (think, uh, well just think "B is not A and A = Audio" :| )

Yeah, that's what I thought.

I tested on my VOM but I was watching how fast it dropped.

Thanks

I too forgot what the B stands for, if anything, so looking it up...

There are two options we can pick from - "beeline" or "slam bang" (I kid you not on the second one; check the link :D)

Yep, not enough sleep for me...
