Post by: jimbob on January 03, 2004, 01:09:29 PM
THe GGG site req. 2 .47 film caps and i have none. Whats the next common value i could use? --this value is a 104k im guessing 105k is next closest w out noticable sound change.

104? that's 100000 pF or 0.1 uF.
105 would be 1000000 pF or 1 uF.

The three digits represent the value like this:

The first two digits are the first two numbers.
The last digit is the amount of zeroes behind the first two.

That's the value in pF. Divide by 1 million to get the uF value, and divide by 1000 to get the nF value ;)

get as close as you can to the stock value. ;)
I built the EA tremolo and I love it! :P Now to find it a box...

I assume the next in line would be a .33 or .56..not sure what i was thinking about the 104 vs 105. I was reading the GGG parts selection bout the AE trem and the 104 and 105 was listed there as possible markings..So how bout the .33 or .56? I might be better off tying a few togather to get closer to the .47

Yeah but remember to connect 'em up in parralel to add up capacitance. ;)

Im still very new to electronics as im sure its obvious. I did want to double check this w you though. In series would mean tying one end (leg) of a cap to the other leg of the other cap.(as u would w a resistor) In parrell would mean adding a cap with the legs of both caps in the same places-just not the same hole..I hope im not being confusing. A pic of this is in the diy mods/tips about adding a cap in parrell to the clipping diodes. http://www.diystompboxes.com/pedals/index2.html Am I close. I did go to several links to fig this one out on my own, but nothing about adding a cap to increase value--that i could find.

thanks for your patience and help smoguzbenjamin!

jimbob, if you have two 1 uf caps, put them in series to get 0.5uF, which should get you basically the same as 0.47uF
