Title: Help with input cap blend control. B Tremblay can you help?
Post by: BillyJ on January 05, 2004, 12:42:07 PM
So I am trying to implement this trick. In the archives there is suppose to be a link to it that B Tremblay had posted in this thread but doesn't link anymore.

I'd love to see it but I tried it none the less last night.
BTW I am trying to use this as the sweep control on a 535.
I used a 100KB pot with a .047 uF on one lug and a .022 uF cause they were handy.
The result is that one either end of the pot I get wah sounds. In the middle though I get a volume pedal.....
Hmmm...anyone tell me why that is? I iwll try some other cap values tonight.
I also tried the same caps with a 25K and a 500K with about the same results. I will try to dig up a 50K to see if that helps.
Anyway any ideas or thoughts on this would be much appreciated!!!
I also looked at all my NVN schematics for clues but didn't really see this exactly. I did see some tone controls that looked the same but I think on all of them one of the outer lugs is also tied to the center lug.
Ok thanks for any input!! :D

You're wiring it up wrong.  The idea for a variable capacitor is that you have the smaller value cap in the circuit as normal, but then you also wire a larger value cap in parallel with it.  You add the pot in series with the larger cap so you can, in effect, turn it off by the addition of series resistance, or turn it on by removing the series resistance. E.G...
