where can LDRs and LDR coupling packages be purchased. I haven't been able to find these very readily. Is there a useful name to search by?
I looked up the part number in my peavey tube amp for the LDR LED assembly that is used to modulate the tremolo and found information about it...but nowhere to buy it.
Where do you all get your LDRs?
Unless you need a specific part make them yourself. All you need is an LED, LDR, and some heatshrink tubing.

where do you buy the LDR? are they available from mouser? part #? alternate name...???
All I can find is optocouplers with photo transistors and such.
Transmogrifox, You could search for "photoresistor"...
Hope this helps.
I get mine from Radioshack (decent price, decent components at least for the photoresistors) and wrap them in electrical tape. Very professional, I know ;)

Mouser part #'s 338-76c348, 338-76c569, 338-76c59, 338-54c348,
338-54c679, 338-54c69, or 338-54c79.
Newark also sells the LED/LDR's and Photoconductive cells. Search for Vactrol Optoisolators.
Or, for the best service try Small Bear, he sells a couple differenct types and brands.
thanks to you all a bunch.
that should line me out to find some stuff...I have just started getting into dinking with modulated FX, and am seeing some value in the LDR...
