Title: GGG Boutique Fuzz: troubleshooting.....AAAAGGH!!!!
Post by: Bucksears on January 13, 2004, 10:29:31 PM
Ok, just finished the Rodent (which is sounds incredible) and I'm going back to finish troubleshooting on my FF.
Here are my voltages (and assumptions):
Q1
C - 8.8v
B - 8.7v
E - 8.8v

Q2
C - .1v
B - 8.8v
E - 8.8v

My guess is that Q1 is kaput!! (maybe Q2 is as well).

Does anyone concur? (Doctor?)

Is that a "Catch Me If You Can" reference?

I often suspect dead parts when I'm trouble shooting, and it rarely turns out to be the problem. Of course triple-check the pinout, check for correct parts values and trace every connection on the board.  I keep a large magnifying lens handy to inspect the solder side also.

hmm.. Q1 definately shouldn't have the same voltage on the collector & emitter.

and the base of Q1 should just be getting the guitar input.. not +9v

I'd check the wiring around Q1.

Thanks guys. Yeah, that is a CMIYC reference. One of the (very) few DiCaprio movies I really like.

I should probably mention that I soldered the transistors in after being suspicious of the sockets I had in there. I'll double check everything and see what else I find.
Thanks for the info on the Q1.
